When we want to know the depth of ocean, we need to use sound equipment.
the name of this equipment is Sonar.
The principle is simple. Sonar makes the sound to ocean. Then sound travels the ocean until the bottom. After touching the bottom, the sound come back to mechine. Now we have to calcuate. Calculating the velocity of sound times the seconds to come back, we can get the distance from the ship to the bottom
In this way, we can find the group of fishes when we are fishing with ship.
Are you aware of all the applications of sound? Here is a video of some of the coolest ones:
If you play the guitar, We will make the metal string vibrated. In this time, the vibration of string make a electric current by interacting with magnet. This principle is called 'magnetic induction' Finally when this electric current go into the amp from the guitar, the amp make this amplify.
¿So, what happens with sound up in space? Well, absolutely nothing!! Theres is no sound in a vacuum because the sound waves can not be transmitted trough it. However, astronauts can manage to mantain communication through radio devices, this happens because electromacnetic waves can be transmitted even in the absence of natural mediums.
So it doesn´t matter how much you scream, if you don´t have a radio, nobody will be able to hear you!
Here we show you a brief video of why we hear nothing in space:
